ISLE OF MAN – The Microgaming Health & Care Trust has made a £5,000 donation to Isle of Man Sport Aid to support the purchase of a new ultrasound machine.
Isle of Man Sport Aid is a local charity which provides assistance to the island’s leading sportsmen and women. Established by Isle of Man Sport, the charity’s services include sport psychology, nutritional advice, physiotherapy and medical support.
Medical support is offered through Dr. Frank Vaughan, Sports Doctor; a registered GP with a strong interest in sports medicine. A big part of Dr. Vaughan’s services is assessing injuries through the charity’s own ultrasound machine, performing over 300 scans a year. Local sports people rely heavily on the machinery for quick diagnosis of sporting injuries.
With an average life-span of 5-7 years, Isle of Man Sport Aid was looking to replace their existing ultrasound machine, which was purchased back in 2009. Having received support from the Microgaming Health & Care Trust in the past, they applied for funding. The application was successful and the trust provided £5,000 towards the cost of the equipment.
The new machine is now in full use at the Isle of Man Sport Institute at the NSC. It will provide significantly improved clarity of imaging and therefore more accurate diagnosis of injuries. Importantly, the machinery is portable and will be used at various on and off-island sporting events. It is currently in Jersey for the Island Games 2015.
Chris Quine, Sports Performance Co-ordinator for Isle of Man Sports, comments: “We’re very grateful to the Microgaming Health & Care Trust for their support in the purchase of a new ultrasound machine. With hundreds of scans performed every year, this equipment is an essential part of the medical support we provide to the local sporting community, as well as our talented Sport Aid athletes.”
Dr. Guy Sissons, Trustee of the Microgaming Health & Care Trust, adds: “It was our pleasure to support Isle of Man Sport Aid with their project to obtain a new ultrasound machine. They deliver a unique service to the island’s sporting community, providing medical assistance in a timely manner, and keeping people out of the system at Noble’s which helps to take the pressure off the hospital. We recognise Dr. Vaughan’s high level of competence and expertise in the field of musculoskeletal scanning, and with this new equipment, our sporting stars are in excellent hands!”
