ISLE OF MAN – David Knight, World Enduro Motorcycle Champion, becomes the third sporting hero to join the Microgaming Ambassador Programme.
Manx man David Knight is a champion in his chosen sport; he is one of the world’s best off road riders. Having started racing professionally in 2000, David worked his way up the ranks to win his first World Championship in 2005. He has continued to lead the field with three further World Championships and an impressive 16 British Championship titles.
In a sport that has seen him travel around the globe, David has endured success worldwide; he has won two GNCC series, America’s premier off-road racing series, and in Australia the prestigious Aussie Four Day title. In addition, David was the overall winner of the International Six Days Enduro, becoming the only British rider in the event’s 100 year history to do so. In recognition of his accomplishments to date, David was awarded an MBE in June 2011 and was asked to carry the Olympic torch when it came to the Island in 2012.
Following a couple of difficult seasons with injury, this year David has signed for Sherco and has made the decision to revert back to his major strength, the extreme enduros. David’s 2013/14 season kicked off with the Super Enduro World Championship opener in Liverpool at the Echo Arena on Sunday 17th November. David’s season got off to an excellent start taking second place.
David now joins swimming ace, Laura Kinley, and the fastest Manx man to run a mile, Keith Gerrard, in the Microgaming Sports Ambassador Programme whereby Microgaming is supporting local athletes through their sporting careers.
David Knight, Microgaming Ambassador, says: “I love my sport, but travelling to all the enduro events worldwide wouldn’t be possible without financial support; I can’t thank Microgaming enough for choosing to support me. I'm truly honoured to become an Ambassador and to be part of the Microgaming family; I'm looking forward to getting involved and doing some fun things together.”
Roger Raatgever, CEO of Microgaming, comments: “We are delighted to have David join the Microgaming family. David personifies exactly what Microgaming is about; he is dedicated, passionate and determined to be the best. I was lucky enough to be able to watch David ride at the recent Super Enduro in Liverpool; he is highly talented and it’s no wonder he has shone in his career so far. We look forward to following David as his career continues and wish him the best of luck for the season ahead.”
